”"Everyone in the industry needs to take responsibility and make smart decisions, while we need to be brave and dare to act"”

Railway Day takes place on November 26. We met with WSP Sverige AB, a partner for the day, and took the opportunity to ask a few questions.

Hello Magnus Hedin, Sub-sector lead within Rail Advisory, WSP Sweden. Railway Day brings together industry players to discuss the future – what makes you want to be part of that particular conversation?

– WSP wants to be part of and contribute to a sustainable and predictable industry where infrastructure, trains, traffic and maintenance are handled in the best possible way with determination and visionary thinking where people are in focus. It is about everyone in the industry needing to take responsibility and make smart decisions at the same time that we need to be brave and dare to act on what we believe in. Since the industry contains many stakeholders, the work must also be done together for the best effect. Railway Day is an excellent and well-arranged forum that helps to bind these same stakeholders to discuss how we together use each other's resources and strengths in the best way with the aim of developing this industry in the right direction. WSP is happy to support this and is willing to do the little extra that is required for a better future for us all.

If you could wish for one thing that would solve the challenges within the railways in Sweden - what would it be?

– A long-term perspective in decisions and a clear goal in terms of investments and innovation rate. In addition to more resources and clarity of responsibility, better collaboration between stakeholders in the industry is required, where we should all strive towards the goal. WSP plays an important role in this by utilizing knowledge and experience from different parties and bringing together different stakeholders in various ways. As a world-leading technology consulting company, we can also inspire and learn from our international network of very experienced consultants.

What does your company contribute to the railway system?

– WSP contributes its broad and deep railway expertise where it is most needed. We drive the development of how vehicle procurement is managed effectively, as well as supporting both clients and operators in developing and offering support in traffic procurement so that they are as effective as possible. We are also very advanced in asset management, i.e. how we can maintain the values of various assets with the right systematics and system support. We challenge and develop with a holistic perspective, strategically, tactically and operationally. At WSP Rail Advisory we work both nationally and internationally.
